A guy has an away-from-home drinking problem, his wife is suspicious: she sends him to the doctor, who says, "you've got a drinking problem." On the way home he sees this advertisement in the music store window, "GET SYNCOPATED" - so he reports to his wife, "I've got syncopation" [fake tears]. His wife ever suspicious resorts to the dictionary, and finds: "syncopation: an off-beat staggering from bar to bar."
