Washington
This is a true story that gave us the meaning of one of our most popular saying today. This story tells where the saying" You got to be shitting Me" came from.
It started during General George Washington's time. Washington was leading his men to Valley Forge to spent the winter. It had been a long trip. Washington's men were tried, badly beaten, and freezing to death. The winter storms were blowing in. Valley Forge was just over 4 day march away. Washington was faced with a problem. He must find a place for his army to spend the night.
He sent out his trusted aid Cox to make arrangement in the closest spot. But while Cox was crossing the Delaware river, he fell into the river and died.
At that point a miracle happen. Washington saw a big house on top of the hill. This house would be perfect place to spend the night. However he didn't see the red light in the window.
Washington went to the house and knocked on the door. The Madam was more the happy to take care of Washington and his men for the night. She asked Washington how many men he had. Washington, who was still upset over the loss of his trusted aid Cox, said "I have over 5000 men, but they can use the grounds around your house and they can take care of themselves, but my officers need your services." The Madam, now was very excited so she asked "Well, just how many officers do you have?'
Washington answered "65 without Cox"
The Madam said in disbelieve "You got to be shitting Me"
So, that is the true story of how that saying was started.
