Passwords

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Passwords are very important because they help control the virtual access to your system.  It is important to use good passwords.  It is equally important to not use the same password for everything.

An easy way to use mutilple passwords and remember them easily is to develop a scheme for creating passwords.

For example you choose the following as a root passowrd for your scheme

Pas007Wrd

You can create multiple easy to remember passwords by inserting the first and last character of the service into the root password.

for example the ebay password would be

Pas007eYWrd

Notice the scheme here is to insert two characters into position 7 & 8 of the root password.  Also the second inserted character is uppercase.

Therefore, the password for Amazon.com would be

Pas007aNWrd

Using the a and the N for the word amazon.

Don't use words found in a dictionary
Don't use names (especially family members or pets)
Mix alpha-characthers and and numbers
Use Upper and lowercase characters
Make your passwords at least 8 characters
Use at least one punctuation character
