Run various anti-spyware programs
At the time of this writing, we have not found any one program that is capable of detecting all known spyware infections. It is highly recommended that several programs be used to ensure that the system is clean.
There are many different programs available, we have listed a few of the programs that we feel work the best.
When Removing Spyware it is always a good idea to follow these guidelines:
| • | On Windows ME, XP & Vista systems, it is always a good idea to disable the System Restore feature. |
| • | Boot into Safe Mode when possible. |
| • | Close all running programs. |
| • | Disable Real Time Monitoring Programs. |
| • | Close all non-essential system tray items. |
| • | Ensure that all internet browser windows are closed. |
| • | Disconnect from the internet and network. |
| • | Reboot the computer after each program is ran. Don't forget to close all unnecessary programs after the computer has rebooted. |
If you install all the program you intend to run an perform any updates before you start these steps, it is advisable that you disconnect the computer from the internet.
Run HijackThis (highly recommended)
| • | Save the log for later reference, Don't make any adjustments at this time. |
Run SUPERAntiSpyware (highly recommended)
Update your Java Runtime Environment (highly recommended)
Uninstall File Sharing/P2P Programs (highly recommended)
Run HijackThis (a second time) (highly recommended)
| • | Carefully repair any bad items. |
| • | Reboot the system. |
Run SpyBot S&D (a second time) (optional)
This should no longer be necessary
| • | Immunize the system. |
| • | Note there are two immunize options, use them both. |
Optionally, you can run other programs.
Be careful to avoid scamware.
If you disabled the system restore feature before removing spyware, you can turn it back on now.
If disabled any Real Time Monitoring Programs, you can re enable them now.
