Security can be divided into two distinct areas, Physical and Virtual security.
Physical security covers keeping unwanted users from you computer and network. This is usually accomplished by limiting who gets near your equipment.
Virtual security involves keeping users out of your computer and network from network connections. The internet allows connections to computers from all over the world. This means that someone halfway around the world can potentially access you computer from where they are and you probably would never know it.
