Russell Allred

Wiley Peebles, Russell Allred, and John Slaughter all perished in the same car accident. The accident occurred just below Mount Bonnell, in Austin, during their Freshman year at UT. That would make it about 1980-1981. Mark Paulson sadly remembers "...the destroyed car was stored at a gas station right across the street from my dorm. A truly sobering sight and a painful, daily reminder of the loss."
Russell's laid back demeanor and slow-drawl were undoubtedly an Allred trademark. No matter how hectic things seemed, Russell could always take it down a notch and smooth out the situation. Mark Paulson
My remembrance of Russell Allred....When I lived on Theall in Greenwood Forest, a few of the "Jocks" including Russell walked by my house while I was sitting out front. It was uncomfortable for me as, and we all have to admit this, if you weren't in someone's "clique", you were usually not someone they would stop and talk to. I do not remember exactly what was said to me but I remember the feeling I had. It was not pleasant. However, about 1/2 hour after they walked away, up walked Russell. He and I (and my dog Strudel) sat in front of my house and talked for quite awhile. I do not remember the conversation, but I remember when he left, I thought he was a nice guy. To this day when I think of that time, I still have very fond memories of him. Ann Koziol
I will never forget my best friend Russell. He was always there for me. We shared a lot of good times and sad times together. A very funny and great guy! He was always the life of the party, and still is!!!!! Max Reeves--KHS 1979
I knew Russell for so many years and always thought he was one of the best looking guys at Klein! But he also happened to be one of the nicest guys, too! He was such a genuine person and so nice to everyone! no matter who you were. I recall the tragic accident and the great sadness we all felt when we heard the news. I will always remember him (and other KHS friends we have lost) fondly. Debbie (Dick) Alden
