I remember Randy banging away on a base drum during marching band, smiling the entire time. We had English together our Junior year. Often, we disrupted the class by talking and laughing so much, our teacher used to give us a pass to the library just to get rid of us! (We got in really big trouble when the library called the teacher to complain!) I remember a "piece" he wrote for the school newspaper..."Songs you don't want playing on your car radio if you get pulled over" ...the only one I remember is "Life in the Fast Lane" but it had us howling at the time! The last name fit Randy perfect! What a NUTT, but oh how we loved him! I think part of the reason we girls loved Randy so dearly is he hung all over us and always was making sexual references and jokes, yet we were not offended because we knew he cared for each of us like a brother. Randy appeared like such a goof, but he really was deep....I can't begin to describe how his life touched mine then and to this day. He was a brave young man in his struggle for a normal teen life - I will always admire his fight. Lovingly....Debra Rogers Doyle
I have some really nice memories of Randy while at KHS. He was a funny, kind person who always said "hello" and always knew how to make me laugh. I did not even realize he was sick until our junior or senior year. He never complained or had anything bad to say. I still remember him going across that stage at graduation too!! We all cheered loudly for him!! One of my favorite (yet quirky) memories of Randy was when we had to sit at a table together in Algebra - anyone remember those 2-seater table-type desks we had in the open concept math rooms?? Well, he and I were in Algebra together seated at the same table. One day we got called down for talking too much (imagine that!) and the teacher yelled "Randy Nutt and Debbie Dick" and the whole class fell out laughing !!! This only made her more mad at US! Funny thing, Randy and I looked at each other and we laughed the hardest of all ... we had not really put two and two together about our names until this happened. And we never forgot it! And I have never forgotten him! Debbie (Dick) Alden
Randy & I were drummers in the marching band and I had the opportunity to spend much time with Randy, during and after school hours. I remember when Mr. Johnson, 3rd band instructor, announced to the class that Randy had passed away. You could have cut the sadness in the room with a knife. We dedicated every song we played that day to Randy. I think it was the best we ever sounded. Sincerely, Bobby Copus 1980 Grad/Drummer
